Šolc Roman
Roman Šolc, a native of Poděbrady, graduated from the Prague Dance Conservatory (1995). In 2001-2004 he was a member of the National Theatre Ballet in Prague. As a dancer he won the 2nd prize at the Competition of Dance Artists of the Czech Republic and Slovakia Brno 1997 and a prestigious nomination for the Thalia Award 1996 for the role of Mercutio in the ballet Romeo and Juliet.
He is currently one of the most sought-after costume designers in the theatre. He makes great use of his personal knowledge of dance costumes, dressing ballet productions of most Czech theatres, although the focus of his work is currently in the field of musical productions. From a successful career as a professional dancer, he transitioned seamlessly into the work of a theatre designer, and has been designing costumes systematically since 1998. He has worked with the Prague Chamber Ballet, the National Theatre Brno, the J. K. Tyl Theatre in Pilsen, Laterna Magika, the National Theatre in Prague, the State Opera Prague, and the Moravian Theatre Olomouc. His designs have also been brilliantly applied in many musical productions: Cleopatra, The Three Musketeers, The Golem, Angelica, Dracula, Mona Lisa, Baron Munchausen, Robin Hood, Hello Dolly, Adam and Eve, Cabaret, Mata Hari. The London creators of the musical The Phantom of the Opera chose him as the ideal designer for the Czech premiere of the legendary musical. This year he dressed the Czech premiere of another important title, Mamma Mia. He does not shy away from film either; for example, Filip Renc's The Watchman No. 47.
