He was born in 1942 in Prague. He trained as a toolmaker and took up football and pole vaulting at the top level. In 1969 he graduated from the Prague Conservatory in the double bass department. Already during and just after his studies Karel Vágner played in various groups and orchestras, for example in the Pilsen Transit, Pastýři, Greenhorns, Hroši Jan Spálený and in Václav Zahradník's band Sodoma&Gomora. He was a member of Karel Duba's studio band until its end after the tragic event in Mongolia on 21 August 1968. In 1969 he was offered by Jiří Šlitr from the Semafor Theatre and then a performance in the American musical Hair. In 1971 and became a member of the Dance Orchestra of the Czech Republic and Eva Pilarova's group, where he became a bandleader. He also guested in the Karel Vlach Orchestra. In 1973 he founded his own Karel Vágner Orchestra, which accompanied mainly H. Zagorová, P. Rezko, S. Hložek and P. Kotvald. He is also responsible for the best-selling song in the history of Czechoslovakia: the song Holky z naší školky (Girls from our school), which sold almost 1.5 million records! After November 1989 he founded the company Multisonic. He went on to write music for, among other things, Troška's films A Shoe Named Melichar and the trilogies Sun Seno... and Babovřesky. A renowned bandleader, bassist, singer, composer, writer, producer, publisher and entrepreneur, he is also still involved in sports, today mainly tennis, and in the celebrity football club Amfora, he is historically the top scorer with 278 goals.
