He was born on 25 August 1945 in Prague. His father Pavel Alexandrovich Markov (1891-1958) was a Tsarist officer and a nobleman, his mother Gabriela (1911-1992) was born in Vienna. He graduated from FAMU in 1971, majoring in film and television screenwriting and dramaturgy. He is the author of the theme and co-writer of the screenplay for the film How to Drown Doctor Mráček or The End of Watermen in Bohemia, co-writer (with Luděk Sobota) of the theme and screenplay for the film A Bigger Jerk Than We Hoped for, and co-writer (with Zdeněk Troška) of the themes and screenplays for the film trilogy Sun, Hay, Strawberries, Sun, Hay and a Few Slaps and Sun Hay Erotica. Together with Troška, they later translated the book into book form (three editions, 80,000 copies). He is also the author of the libretto and lyrics of eleven musicals, the most famous of which are probably Zvonokosy (twice in HDK etc.), Baron Prášil (Hybernia Praha), Casanova (Brodway Praha). He is also responsible for a number of radio and television plays and fairy tales (e.g. Láďo, You're a Princess, or Million Dollar Love). He is also the co-author (with Petr Nárožný) of 45 episodes of the TV series Zlatíčka, as well as thirteen books and around four hundred song lyrics (Znala panna pán, Cesta ke štěstí, etc.). In 2018, he was the recipient of the Miroslav Švandrlík Award for his lifelong commitment to humour.
