Kretschmerová Jaroslava

She comes from a family of musicians, her grandmother worked at the National Theatre, her mother was an opera singer and her father was a member of the Musical Theatre in Karlín. She became a member of Studio Ypsilon in 1978 after graduating from DAMU. Since then, she has starred in a number of Jan Schmid's productions, including Matěj Honest (Hedona), Sebevrah (Serafima Iljinichna), Amerika (Top Chef), Othello (Emilia), The Joke, Satire, Irony and Deeper Meaning (Adelaide), Some Like It Hot (Sugar), The Heart (Teacher Perboni), The Window (Mother), Mozart in Prague (Duskova), Nadsamec Jarry (Henrietta Cynova, Mother, Luisa France). She is currently appearing in productions of The Head of Medusa (Lucie Bonneau), The Bartered Bride (Gretel), Prague Hundred Spires (Ludmila, Vlasta and others), Faust and Margaret (Siebel and Georgina Weldon). She also appeared in Arnošt Goldflam's productions of The Returning Plank (The Wife Eva, a role written directly for her by A. Goldflam) and in the adaptation of The Metamorphosis or Gregory Has Had Enough. She starred in a large number of films, the most important of which are Kalamita (dir. V. Chytilová), The Secret Castle in the Carpathians (dir. O. Lipský), The Garden of Clowns (dir. J. Herz), The Humour Seller (r. J. Krejčík), Love Between the Raindrops, Counting Sheep (r. K. Kachyňa), The Devils Are No Jokes (r. H. Bočan) or the trilogy Sun, Hay,... (dir. Z. Troška). "They keep shouting at me, Evík. It's actually very nice, sometimes they even let me shop in the store after closing time." In addition to these directorial icons, she has also worked with Jan Švankmajer, winning the Czech Lion (2001) for her supporting role in his film Otesánek. You may know her from several roles in older and more recent television series such as Life at the Castle, Family Ties or He is a Woman. She is involved in charity work and dubbing (she lends her voice especially to Barbra Streisand).
