Zavřel Vlastimil

Thepopular actor was born into a family of an operetta singer and dancer; his grandparents were also opera singers. After primary school, he graduated from the State Conservatory in Prague with a degree in music and drama, and after graduating in 1976 he joined the J. K. Tyl Theatre in Pilsen, at the same time guesting at the E. F. Burian Theatre in Prague and also at the Karlín Musical Theatre, with which he still works today. After the war, he joined the Realistic Theatre in Prague, where he stayed for seventeen years. From there he left in 1996 for the Dlouhá Theatre in Prague, where he has worked ever since. He has also performed in the productions of the Sklep Theatre, the Theatre in Řeznická, where he played and sang the role of Escamillo in Ota Ševčík's production of Carmen, and at the Theatre at the Firemen in the production of Záměna. The audience knows Vlastimil Zavrel also from many film and television roles (the first was in the film The Girl on the Broom), as well as Arabela (1979), Tank Battalion (1991), Wonderful Years Under the Dog (1997), Policemen from the Suburbs (1998), Cunning Philip (2003), etc. He was awarded the Thalia Award for 2008 for his role as Commissar Ledvina in the musical Adéla ještě nevečeřela. He also currently appears in TV series and memorably dubs the character of Homer Simpson in the popular cartoon series The Simpsons.
