Dvořák Daniel
Academic architect Daniel Dvořák comes from an art-oriented family in Prague. His father is a prominent art historian Prof. František Dvořák. His older brother Jan is a theatre scholar, teacher and publisher of theatre literature. From childhood he had contact with the world of art and various personalities not only in the then Czechoslovakia but also in Europe.
After graduating from the Secondary School of Arts and Crafts in Prague, he graduated from the Academy of Arts and Crafts in Prague in the Special Studio of Architecture and Scenography (Professor Josef Svoboda).
Since 1982 he has worked as a freelance scenographer for theatre (opera, ballet, drama, musical), film and television. He has realized more than 250 scenographies at home and abroad. At the same time, he also started working as a theatre organizer in the then unofficial theatre.
Since 1984, he has regularly collaborated as a stage designer with the National Theatre in Prague (more than 30 titles to date).
In addition to the Czech stage, he has staged around 30 productions in Argentina, Finland, France, Italy, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Germany, Norway, Russia, Slovakia, Austria.
In 1998-2002 he was the director of the Prague State Opera. From 2002 to 2006 he was the director of the National Theatre in Prague. He is the co-founder and since 2008 the executive director of the international festival Janáček Brno.
As a set designer and specialist in complex technical constructions, he has also been involved in the realization of the largest musical productions in the Czech Republic: DRACULA (Karel Svoboda) Prague, Bratislava, Seoul, Moscow 1995-2000, MONTE CRISTO (Karel Svoboda) Prague 2000, MISS SAIGON (Prague 2004) and FANTOM OPERA Prague 2014. At the Karlín Music Theatre he created the set design for the musicals WEST SIDE STORY and THE ADDAMS FAMILY.
