THEATRE HELPS TOGETHER WITH ENTREPRENEURS

The coronavirus has brought with it a host of economic problems. But in a fundamental way it has taken a toll on the most precious thing we have, our health. And it's not just our health, but also the health of our loved ones. The most at risk are our parents and grandparents, our elderly fellow citizens in long-term care facilities, in old people's homes, in nursing homes. And so we decided to contribute our bit to the mill within our means.

In two days, a charity project called Musical Theatre Karlín LIVE was created in cooperation with partners including COT media, Musical Theatre Karlín, Stop Bullying, TVCOM.cz and the Chamber of Commerce of the Czech Republic to help seniors, their caregivers and all other frontline workers.

The project brings together artists and entrepreneurs. Its basic idea is simple: When people can't go to the theatre, the theatre can go home to people through modern technology. At the heart of the project is an original cultural programme, streamed on the internet. The technical guarantor is the name of TVCOM.CZ, which is the largest streaming provider in the Czech Republic and is beginning to focus on culture alongside sport. The premiere, which was broadcast on Friday 27 March directly from the stage of the Karlín Music Theatre, starred Václav Noid Bárta and Iva Pazderková. On Saturday, they were followed by Ondřej Gregor Brzobohatý. The first two online broadcasts were seen by 20,000 viewers. The streams will now continue on a regular basis every Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m.

The proceeds from the project, which consist of voluntary contributions for watching the stream, are primarily used to purchase medical supplies and materials for the elderly in long-term care facilities, senior homes and nursing homes. The distribution of the aid is coordinated with social welfare councillors in each region.

The project creates a platform for a broader framework of assistance, in which entrepreneurs in particular can get involved. Already in the first week, 30 companies and thousands of individuals have supported the project. More are determined to join in. Thanks to the partners, delivery trucks are available, but also, for example, pallets of incontinence nappies, disinfectants, drapes, syrups, coffee, dried fruit and much more. However, seniors deserve and need so much more. With appropriate help, we do not forget the hospital and medical staff, who have our admiration.
