The Czech Grand Design Awards gala is moving to the Karlín Music Theatre after a two-year hiatus, when it was held only on TV screens without physically present guests due to the coronavirus pandemic. "This year's Czech Grand Design Awards will introduce a number of new names. New names are to be expected in the Discovery of the Year category, with surprises in the Jewellery Designer of the Year and Fashion Designer of the Year categories. This new wave of Czech design comes at a time that is not easy for creators. The market is reacting quite turbulently to the pandemic and many projects have stood still, some are still waiting for their launch in more favourable times. The good news is that most designers are continuing their work and the even better news is that despite the adversity, new brands are emerging, new manufacturers are expanding and the hope and creativity of the young generation of Czech designers is reflected in the Awards," said Jana Zielinski, Designblok Director for the Awards Preparatory Committee. During the gala evening, a personality who will enter the Czech Design Hall of Fame for his or her lifetime contribution to the field will also be honoured.
The director of the evening is Jana Burkiewiczová from the Burkicom formation, the set designer is Lucie Škandíková and the costume designer is Marek Cpin. Guests and spectators can look forward to a spectacular show of the apocalyptic era. But the heroes of the evening will of course be the designers!
