Čardášová princezna

Emmerich Kálmán's best and most famous operetta and one of the world's best operettas ever returns to the stage of the Karlín Music Theatre. This new production, in collaboration with the Hungarian BUDAPESTI OPERETTSZÍNHÁZ, aims to attract a wide range of audiences to the operetta.

This version is celebrating success not only in Budapest, but also in Salzburg, Munich, St. Petersburg and other European cities.

The success of the immortal The Princess of Chardonnay owes not only to its stunning music but also to its witty libretto.

The young Viennese Prince Edwin falls in love with Sylva Varescu, star of the Budapest cabaret Orpheum. But Sylva leaves for a tour in the United States and Edwin is called back to his regiment. To prevent Sylva from leaving, Edwin makes an immediate decision: he proposes marriage to Sylva and confirms his decision the same evening in front of a notary at the Orfeum. At the same time, however, Edwin's parents formally announce his engagement to his cousin Anastasia. Sylva learns of the engagement and decides to punish Edwin...

But we will reveal no more. Come to the Karlín Musical Theatre to see how things turn out with Edwin and Sylva, the Princess of Chardonnay.

Reviews

"Kálmán's The Princess of Chardonnay impressed with its staging precision!"

"It is clear that HDK is the best musical theatre in Prague and does not need a large ensemble of star 'singers', which is more than usual in Prague productions. The theatre also proved to us that the operetta genre is not dead and the final standing ovation was well deserved by all the performers and authors!"

"The premiere of Kálmán's operetta The Chardash Princess at the Musical Theatre in Karlín was a great success with a return to honest craft. ... It's said to be sold out by the end of the year... Proof that a well-made operetta pulls."
