A QUIET EVENING OF DANCE

Ballet is Forsyth's native language and the international choreographer pays tribute to it in his latest work, which returns to the Tanec Praha festival after twenty years. As is his own way in a career spanning more than forty-five years, this time too he changes the classical ballet technique - in a fresh, distinctive way, combining it with elements of hip hop - and adapts it to the 21st century. A Quiet Evening of Dance is quiet and minimalist, demanding the viewer's intellect and attention.

William Forsythe is one of dance's greatest figures, hailing from New York City. He first danced with the Joffrey Ballet and later with the Stuttgart Ballet, where he became resident choreographer in 1976. Since 1984 he has been the director of the Frankfurt Ballet, which he has made famous throughout the world. After its closure, he founded his own company, The Forsythe Company, in 2005, which he directed until 2015. His works have been performed by prestigious companies and he has also been invited to work on a number of film and visual art projects, specifically installations. He is the recipient of the French title of Commandeur des Arts et Lettres (1999) and numerous awards, including the New York Dance and Performance "Bessie" Award, London's Laurence Olivier Award, the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale, the Grand Prix de la SACD, and the Samuel H Scripps / American Dance Festival Lifetime Achievement Award in 2012, among others.
