Hes Richard
choreographer, librettist, director
Graduated from the dance department of the Prague Conservatory. During his studies he worked as a choreographer. In 1986, he founded the Dance Company UNO, which won numerous awards at home and abroad. As a choreographer and artistic director of this dance company he created several original full-length dance performances (Checkmate, Carmen, Nikita). In 1991 he was invited with his group to participate in the Swiss musical Keep Cool, which he co-created and which had 1270 performances in Switzerland and Germany. He put all this experience to good use in the Prague production of West Side Story (HD Karlín, 1993), adapting the script, choreographing and directing. He is the author of the theme, choreography and co-writer of the script of the musical Dracula (Prague, 1995, and a new production in 2003), for which he was also the art producer. He choreographed and directed Daniel Hulka's musical show MISE, which was seen by over 50,000 people during its tour of the Czech Republic and was successfully staged at the Prague Exhibition Centre. He has directed and choreographed several performances at the Křižík Fountain in Prague and countless television and film projects. One of his works was the Slovak version of Grease. Another theatrical venture of Richard Hes was the musical Monte Cristo (Prague, 2000), for which, as with Dracula, he was co-author of the libretto and choreographer. In 2003 he directed and choreographed Mozart's opera Don Giovanni at the Estates Theatre in Prague. He choreographed the musical Night at Karlštejn at HD Karlín (2004).
He died on 17 February 2014.
