The Karlín Music Theatre in cooperation with LL Production and ProVox music publishing s.r.o. has been presenting the musical DRACULA by Karel Svoboda, Zdeněk Borovec and Richard Hes since 2015, 20 years after its world premiere.
This production is, of course, based primarily on the now legendary music and libretto; furthermore, the producers have chosen to stay as close as possible to the original Congress Centre cast. The mainstay of the set will be Daniel Dvořák's set and Roman Šolc's costumes, which are familiar to the audience from the Hybernia Theatre's production of this musical. The set will be expanded and enriched with new modern elements, such as projections. The guarantee that this musical legend will see the light of day in the best possible form is not only the producer of the first , legendary version, Egon Kulhánek, but also Oldřich Lichtenberg, who staged this musical years ago at the Hybernia Theatre.
The musical Dracula was seen by a record 1.2 million spectators at the Palace of Culture (now the Congress Centre) between 1995 and 1998, which is an unprecedented and unsurpassed Czech musical record! Subsequently, it was staged in Slovakia, in Seoul, South Korea, in Poland, Germany, Russia, Belgium and Liechtenstein.
It returned briefly to the Congress Centre in 2003 in its original staging, but with a new cast, and then in a newer staging, on which we are now basing our production, in 2009-2011 at the Hybernia Theatre.
The biggest news is that Dracula the Musical is now performed exclusively with a live orchestra!
UNDERSTUDY
An understudy, or understudy, is a performer who rehearses a specific role in a production but does not regularly perform in it. This understudy is then ready to step into the role at any time if the original performer is unable to perform due to injury, illness, or other unforeseen circumstances. The understudy is therefore an important part of the production and steps in when we would otherwise have to cancel the performance. Understudy attends all rehearsals of the production with the main cast so that he or she has thoroughly rehearsed a particular role and is ready to perform at any time.
